So when (my son) Landon and went away to college… when he was getting ready to leave for college, I said, “Well Landon, I've given you all the tips and tricks and hints I can. There's only three things left to say before you go off to college…

Number One: Never go to a party empty-handed. Always take a bottle of wine, a card… flowers… something… 

Number Two: Always write a thank you note when someone has done something nice for you because they didn't have to do that… 

And Number Three: When you go to a party or a meeting… stand in the doorway before you enter the room… and then Focus and listen when you introduce yourself to someone… Focus and listen to their name…  because if you don't do that… you'll shake hands and you'll forget their name ten minutes later and not remember what it is. 

OK that's it. Off you go to college!” 

Landon writes me every once in awhile and tells me when he's written a thank you note to someone… and I just smile.
